I've been busy working on lots of new flower brooches for my stall.

Here is my lovely mint-green teapot modelling a tea-cosy that I made for one of my fellow market traders!
We have a sweet little bookshop in the market called Hall of Books, and a couple of weeks ago the very kind proprietor Shaun found me a copy of "Finn Family Moomintroll" which is a fifth edition from 1970.
It's a lovely thing and we agreed on a trade - Tea Cosy for Moomins, and I finally got around to fulfilling my part of the deal yesterday, using this fantastic pattern from Crochet With Raymond. It's a fab cosy, and I fully intend to make one for myself as soon as I get an afternoon to spare!

I spent rather a large portion of this week unable to leave the house because of a mountain of snow, but I made sure I had plenty to do - I made myself this cosy little nook on my living room floor and got to work!I've been managing to keep a sketchbook again for a while now, but I'm working mostly in black and white so I've started a bigger book for colour references. It's working pretty well for me...
As well as pages and pages of designs, I've been working on what will eventually be a large cushion cover, which will match one of my favourite blankets. It's a nice stash buster project too, I hate throwing away odds and ends of yarn so this is a good way to use them up.

You know how some days are pretty good, and some are not so much, and then some are amazing?! Well today was one of those 'few and far between' absolutely amazing days! It started pretty well when I received April's edition of I heart SY magazine, featuring my latest tutorial, paper bunting!
And then we had a visit from the Welsh language television channel S4C, to celebrate winning an award for best council run market in the country, and my shop was featured...
And the last thing that made the day amazing was a letter. Unfortunately I can't share much just yet, other than to say that I will be shopping for a fancy frock very soon, for a rather fancy evening. I will be able to spill the beans next Thursday, and I really can't wait.
So this evening I am recovering from a really very exciting day!

Over the last couple of days I've read and seen some beautiful and inspiring things on various blogs and websites, and since I like to share, here they are...
- Some fabulous quilt love over at Thimbles and Crumbles
- Some wise words from I Saw You Dancing
- A new adventure starting at Attic 24
- Sunflowers and Peaches thrifty finds from Her Library Adventures
- Lots of inspiration from ArtHound
- Beautiful embroidery inspiration from Karen Ruane
And if that wasn't enough joy and fabulousness...

I had a rare opportunity to have a mooch around the charity shops in Wolverhampton this week, and I rescued some fabulous linens that will be just perfect for my gemmipop vintage makings...
I can't wait to get started with making, but I have lots of little birds cut out already, waiting patiently to be sewn up and sent on their way to new homes, so for now I shall enjoy just looking at these lovely new additions and imagining all of the sweet things that they will become!

I've had a very productive week so far, despite spending a fair amount of time fighting off a grotty headache. I love knitting and crocheting in equal measure, and tend to get carried away with one or the other. At the moment I'm on a crochet kick, working on new flower brooches for my stall and a granny stripe blanket for my cosy home.
I love making blankets - there's something lovely about snuggling up under a home-made blanket, particularly when we seem to be having a terribly long winter. At the moment it feels like it's never going to end. But the bright side is blankets and I'm fine with that.

It has to be said that I'm not much of a baker. I'm fine with that, there are lots of things that I do pretty well but making cake is not my forte. Like I say, I'm fine with it. But this evening my husband and I embarked on a fairly crazy baking project...
I have to say that I mostly just supervised the order of colours and did a bit of spreading the mixture around, the actual baking part was all my husband's doing, but between us we made this...
The purple icing is lemon flavoured, with a layer of strawberry jam underneath, and the pink splatters on the top are glittery. The cake itself is just a Victoria Sponge but with layers and the all-important food colouring.
It's a fairly unconventional cake, and maybe not the most elegant, but it tastes marvellous, and who could ask for more than that?! Next we plan to make cupcakes...

I've been very busy over the last week making lots of different things. The latest batch of gemmipop vintage brooches are finished, there's a whole bundle of birds to be sewn, and lots of new flowers in the making...
And I've also made a batch of the double flowers, they are always a favourite so I keep plenty in stock! These ones need to have their buttons sewn on, but I really like the new yarn colours!
I also have some new earrings finished, they are so cute and I love them...

In the spirit of positive thinking I have been making pretty floral brooches today, in the hope that Spring will soon be with us in the very frosty UK. I'm not normally one to be wishing time away, but after a very brisk walk in the snowy air this morning, I look forward to warmer days.

My latest pair of socks are finished! I stayed up much later than I should have last night to get them finished, but it was absolutely worth it!
And this was the tenth pair of socks that I have made for myself, and the fourteenth pair overall. I think I may be addicted to knitting socks...
Which is lucky really since this is what my sock yarn stash looks like at the moment!
Tuesday, 5 March 2013
I have a couple of "work in progress" bits and bobs on the go at the moment. I started a second pair of socks yesterday since I was at the tricky heel-turn moment and I needed an something straightforward that I could work on. My granny blanket is growing slowly, but it's a long term project so I'm quite happy to pick it up and put it down as the mood takes me. I will be posting the pattern that I'm using sometime over the next week.
I had a really sweet little charity shop purchase this morning - this very pretty little pink cake stand. I'm going to use it to display some of my brooches in my stall.
I haven't had much time for mooching around the charity shops lately, I always seem to be in such a rush! So today I decided to take advantage of the lovely sunshine and went for a meander this morning - I went to all of the charity shops, the bakery for something sweet for tonight, and the library to pick up "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", which I cannot wait to start reading!
Monday, 4 March 2013
I had a very busy day on Saturday - I opened an Etsy shop for my gemmipop vintage range! I started work on the range in October and then Christmas making kept me rather busy! So since January I've been working on lots of new stock (and shopping for pretty linens!) and now I finally have an online shop dedicated to the range...

I wonder, would it be too early in the year to say that this month I read my favourite book of 2013?! I absolutely loved "Warm Bodies" by Isaac Marion. I saw the film on Valentine's Day, but I didn't realise it was based on a book until last weekend, after seeing it on the Musings of a Bookshop Girl blog. I really did love the book, and as soon as I finished it I started the prequel, "The New Hunger".
- "Lucky Break" by Esther Freud
- "The Abortionist's Daughter" by Elisabeth Hyde
- "Warm Bodies" by Isaac Marion
- "The New Hunger" by Isaac Marion
I've already started my first book for March - "Bright Young Things" by Scarlett Thomas, and I'm enjoying it so far!
