Blogtoberfest day #31

Well, this is my last post for Blogtoberfest 2012! I'm so pleased that I managed too blog daily, it feels like quite an achievement!
Today has been spent preparing for the Winter Craft Fair on Oswestry market square which is happening this Friday. My lovely husband will be in charge of my cosy unit indoors for the day, and I will be wrapping up warm and heading outside! I will be putting all of my Christmas decorations out for sale, it seems like a lovely way to get the Festive Season off to a good start!
Today I dressed my little tree, I know it's October now, but it will be November by the time it goes out on display! I also got all of my displays ready to put up in my stall when the craft fair is over - my theme this year is "Happy Handmade Christmas" and I'm hoping it will be jolly!

Blogtoberfest day #30

Last week I spent a lovely afternoon with one of my most fabulous friends. In a very busy week, it was a delight to have a bit of quiet time drinking tea, eating chocolate that tasted like Christmas, listening to Bat for Lashes and Tori Amos, knitting, and perusing copies of Golden Hands magazine!
I really loved the fantastic makes in the '70s mag, and I took lots of photographs so that I could share them! These are some of the highlights...

I have made a set on my flickr for the rest of my photographs - feel free to pop over and have a look!

Blogtoberfest day #29 - Thrift-a-long

I didn't have much time for thrifting last week, in fact I'm not sure where the week went at all! I picked up "Coco and Igor" after work on Saturday evening and I'm looking forward to getting started on it!
The vintage brooch came from one of the other stalls in the market - it was a hard choice between this one and one with a pink stone, but I have a scarf that will match this one nicely!
I am joining in with Thrift-a-long this week over at diva jools - do pop over and have a look and if you have had any fab treasures this week be sure to add your link!

Blogtoberfest day #27

It may seem fairly obvious, but the thing I enjoy most about having my own business is that I get to spend whole days making things!
Yesterday I finished the last three of this batch of gemmipop vintage birds - I think it's time to start shopping for  vintage linens again...
My first job today was to make some Christmas tree Button Monsters! They are very cute, and I hope they have a happy home for Christmas!
And once the monsters were done I finished these Yo-Yo brooches.
This evening I am working on my hexagon quilt. I am concerned that this project is going to take quite a lot of my attention, since I am really rather enjoying it!!

Blogtoberfest day #26

I am absolutely thrilled to share this at last!
I have been featured in November's CraftSeller magazine, in a regular article called Crafty Tales! I was approached for this at the end of August, so I've been bursting with excitement waiting for the article to appear and I haven't been disappointed! I was sure to mention the wonderful support that I received from The Prince's Trust, and what a fantastic opportunity it was to be able to open my stall in Oswestry Market. Also, I am hugely grateful to my lovely friend (and amazing photographer) Martin for the photograph of me, and the monster and the button earrings, as well as my husband for the photograph of my star earrings and cat's eye glasses necklace! I really do love that the photographs show a whole range of the things that I make! It's a lovely way to round up the first two years of my stall, and it was really amazing to think of the path that led me to this point.

Blogtoberfest day #25 - My Creative Space

This is actually my work space from yesterday, I had a very busy day...
I packed up and put out all of the new stock that I made on Tuesday, got lots of Button Monsters cut out, as well as some special Monsters that will hang on the Christmas tree, and I made lots of legs for all of the new birds! I love having a busy workspace!
I'm joining in with My Creative Space this week - pop over to have a look!

Blogtoberfest day #24

Today has been a very busy day, so tonight I am just going to share today's finished gemmipop vintage birds before I finally get to go to sleep!
These three are similar - there are two more of this type that are ready to be sewn...

And this one is slightly different but from the same tablecloth - there is another one of these to make...
They are all limited edition and hand numbered. They are on sale in my stall now and  I'll be finishing the last three on Friday, along with some more yo-yo brooches.

Blogtoberfest day #23 - Ta-da Tuesday!

I spent the whole day in my stall today making some of my stock jewellery, as part of my preparations for the busy Christmas season - I want my stall to be absolutely full to burst with lovely brightly coloured pretty things! I made some new jewellery this afternoon too...
cut out cameo necklaces - in five colours for this first batch
I also made swan necklaces - my swan brooches have been really popular, and I thought that a dainty swan necklace would be pretty.
The new necklaces will be on sale in my stall tomorrow, and I'll be popping them in my Etsy shop on Thursday.

Blogtoberfest day #22

I've had lots of very organised people visiting my stall to pick up Christmas presents over the last couple of weeks, so as well as big plans for Christmas decorations, and making more for my gemmipop vintage range, I've been working on some of my regular stock!
Yo-yo brooches have always been one of my favourite things to make - I love looking through my fabric stash for the perfect colour combinations, and choosing a button that is just right to finish it off. These brooches will be in my stall on Wednesday!
And just to share the yarn love - I picked up some beautiful sock yarn and crochet cotton yesterday! There has been much debate amongst myself and my fellow sock knitting enthusiasts about the selection of yarn that is available from our local yarn shop - we are at a stage where we all have very similar socks since the shop only stocks about seven different colour-ways of the same brand, so we're all on the lookout for new possibilities!  I picked this up on a day out in Chester so I could try it, I'm hoping it's going to make a fancy pattern! I got the crochet cotton just because it was pretty, I don't have any plans for it yet...
The purpose of my day out yesterday (aside from having a lovely day out with my husband and his parents) was to drop some more jewellery in to my newest stockist, a really fabulous shop and gallery called Funky Aardvark!
I'm really excited to be involved with such an interesting project, and my jewellery seems to have been pretty popular already! The shop sells handmade crafts, and some craft materials (including my new crochet cotton), and there is a fantastic gallery space - it really is a wonderful place!

Blogtoberfest day #20 - makings!

I've been making some new embroidered fabric birds for my gemmipop vintage range today. I really do enjoy working with vintage fabrics, they are so beautiful and inspiring!

This bird is already sold! She's the only one to have the full rose on the side rather than just the blossoms - it was a quirk in the embroidery that it was the only rose that was positioned correctly to work for a bird, and she really is beautiful. I will be giving her legs on Wednesday and then she will be off to her new home!
These are some of the other birds - they have yellow blossoms on one side and blue ones on the other. I will be giving them legs on Wednesday and then they will be on sale in my stall!
After such a busy day I am going to be spending the evening knitting!

Blogtoberfest day #19

I have to ask - is there a better way to spend an evening than with a kitten crashed out on your lap?!
I had a lovely time at Stitch and Bitch tonight. There was tea, and lovely company, and kittens, and home-made flapjacks, and I even managed to knit a bit. It was the perfect end to the day.

Blogtoberfest day #18 - My Creative Space

Today was my one of my most favourite Creative Spaces ever - knitting whilst enjoying tea and scones in good company!

I think this is the most delightful teapot that I have encountered in a jolly long time!
I seem to have overcome my gloomy mood from yesterday - many thanks to those of you who contacted me, it was comforting to know that I'm not the only one that has those kinds of days. Unfortunately the draw back to making things for a living is having to make things on the days when the inspiration just doesn't kick in! I'm hoping that having had a lovely relaxing day today will put me back on the right foot for tomorrow.
I'm joining in with My Creative Space today - there's lots of lovely links this week, I recommend making a cup of tea before enjoying a mooch around!

Blogtoberfest day#17

I've had a funny sort of day, I seem to have been busy all day but without much to show for it...am I the only one that gets those kinds of days?!
I finished five new brooches for my gemmipop vintage stock and started putting together some new birds, but somehow I really haven't felt inspired...
I'm hoping this odd feeling will pass, but for the rest of the evening I plan to read and drink tea.

Blogtoberfest day #16

I really really love my knitting machine...it's been a long road to this point, but I think we've reached a happy place in our relationship.
I think this may be my new obsession!

Blogtoberfest day # 15

I thought that today I would share some photographs of what I've been working away on over the weekend...

I've put together lots of hexagon flowers, and been trying out different ways to arrange them - they're a very awkward shape!
I've been trying out my knitting machine too - it's an old Singer machine, and in the past I've found the casting on so complicated that I've given up out of frustration, but this time I have persevered and it's working! I hope to have something more interesting to show for my efforts soon!
