Readings... May

It's been a reasonably good month of reading, as well as these four lovely books, I am halfway through "The Book Thief", which I am enjoying thoroughly but haven't had much time to read! As usual I have had a huge bundle of books that I wanted to get through, but I've been so happy making my latest granny blanket that it's taken over all of my spare time!
So in May I read...

  • "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake" by Aimee Bender
  • "The Secrets She Keeps" by Helen Cross
  • "All My Friends are Superheroes" by Andrew Kaufman
  • "Tipping The Velvet" by Sarah Waters
I'm hoping to finish "The Book Thief" by the end of the week, and then I have "How to be a Woman" by Caitlin Moran to read next!

My Creative Space

Today has been jolly productive and it's not even lunchtime yet! So far I've put all of my crochet squares out to have a look at - I've done 75 now and I really love them! I have them all bundled up ready and waiting to be put together - just another 25 to go!
 I've also been baking...

I'm the first to admit that I'm not usually much of a Domestic Goddess in the food department, but I've been making Herman German Friendship cakes and I love them! I made my first one last Tuesday - the original batch of sour dough mixture came from my lovely friend Lowri, and I looked after it for ten days and then split it as per the instructions, and made a (if I may say so) delicious cake for us! I split it so that I kept a second batch, my mum had some and hubby took some to school for one of the other teachers. So again, I looked after it for ten days and today I made a second cake for us (the top one) and a cake for my friend Darren - they're cooling right at this very second! I've kept another lot and have one jarred up ready for my friend Vicky, so I'll be making another cake next weekend! I think I'm making it sound complicated, but it's absolutely worth it!
So today is going well - my house smells of gorgeous cinnamon and apple, I have happy chickens and cats because it's a little bit cooler today, and this afternoon is all about crochet!! What more could a girl ask?!

A Busy Wednesday...

Wednesdays are usually pretty busy - it's a day in the stall so that means lots of selling and chatting to lovely folks and a fair amount of tea drinking - but today was a special Wednesday for several reasons...
Firstly we had a bit of an occasion...

The Olympic Torch came through Oswestry! After yesterday's Yarn Bombing it's been a years worth of excitement in two days for our little town!!

The Second bit of good cheer came from my chevron blanket being featured on one of my most favourite blogs The Royal Sisters by lovely Michelle...
I absolutely love this pattern, it's so much fun to make - here's the link if you've missed it!

And thirdly, I got to meet the recipient of the blanket that I finished at the beginning of April - the latest addition to our market family, baby Felicity, who arrived last Thursday. She's absolutely gorgeous, and apparently loves her blanket!!

So all in all, a pretty eventful Wednesday! I'm planning to relax this evening with a good book and a new cd which arrived today by my favourite new band 'allo darlin'!

Oswestry Gets Yarn Bombed!

I had a message this morning asking if I had seen the yarn-bombing - it took me a moment or two to get over the shock that the person that had sent the message actually knew what yarn-bombing was, and the name for it, but I was thrilled to know that our little town had been adorned with gorgeous bright knitted goodness and I went rushing into town to see it!!
Fountain in the park...
 Festival Square
Statue in the Square (check out the sweatbands on the sheep!!)
Making weaponry a bit more cheerful...
 The park gates...
 and the gates again...
 Snake in a tree...
and the bins in the park!!
It really looks amazing, I wish I knew who did it! It makes the town so bright and cheerful, and everyone is talking about it! It also makes the place look bright ready for our visit from the Olympic Torch tomorrow!

Shopping List Sunday

We've had some gorgeous sunshine this week, after what feels like months of rain and grey skies, so here is my list of sunshiny loveliness, before I head outside to spend some time enjoying it!

My Creative Space

This evening I put all of my squares out so I could have a look at them all - here are the first 49! I started edging them in white on Tuesday and finished last night, I was surprised at how quick they were to do! I think I will need to make 100 for it to be big enough, but I'm so pleased with how well it has come together so far.
I spent a lovely afternoon in the sunshine with my fab friend Vicky today, we shopped and knitted and now I feel all relaxed, and looking forward to a busy day in the stall tomorrow!

Makings...

I've been a very busy bee this week, and have been working on some new designs!

New Kitty Brooches

and Bow Necklace and Earrings - all available on Etsy now!
And some Jubilee Corgi brooches for my stall. I'm not much of a Royalist, I just really love corgis, and what better occasion to show them off!

Flea Market Finds

I had a couple of little finds this week - a copy of "Shoplifters of the World Unite" by The Smiths on 7" single...
And a couple of odd balls of yarn from various charity shops, along with a very pretty embroidered doily...
I have already made the doily into a zip-up bag, I'm really pleased with it...

My Creative Space

I've been busy working away on the centres for my new blanket this week, so far I have 42 finished!
This is a nice little project, and fairly portable - I'm happily throwing a bag of yarn in with my regular work stuff every day when I go to the stall, and working away on them between customers once my to-do list is done! I even made some on the train to London at the weekend! Since I am intending to make about 100 of these, and I've made this many in a week and a half, I suspect I'll be starting the white edges which will make them square in about two weeks! Not ideal to be finishing a blanket as we head into summer, but I wonder if it would be a lovely place to have a picnic at the seaside too?!
