My Creative Space

Today has been a super exciting day! My usual Creative Space was transformed into a photography studio, and I got to wear a pretty dress and everything!
My absolutely humongous (wow, thought the spell checker would have had a hissy fit with that one...) gratitude to Mr Martin Woolfe for making me feel like a movie star and taking such beautiful photographs! There was a reason for this little shoot, as it appears that I'm going to be featured in a magazine... More info soon!
I spent this afternoon trying out my new roller skates. I have an extremely sore bottom after a bit of a tumble, but I loved every moment! What a lovely day!

Some Very Exciting News!

I've had such a lovely day! I had some really nice commission pieces to do this morning, it's really great that people are asking for special personalised jewellery, especially for gifts. It's really flattering! I made this brooch and necklace set for a lovely couple who have a female relative that likes rowing! It's a really snazzy little design!
As well as that, I made a purple greyhound as a special listing for an etsy customer, a couple of brooches for a lady as presents for her daughters, and a necklace for one of my new stall neighbours! After all of that was done, I put together about 40 pairs of button earrings, and 12 yo-yo making kits!
I had a really fantastic tweet this morning too...
I'm not going to say too much yet, but how exciting?!?

Finished Embroidery!

I finished my tea-cup embroidery this afternoon, and I'm so pleased! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to make it into a purse, but I haven't decided what kind of pattern to put on the back yet, or what sort of fabric to line it with.
I have some ideas for new patterns, so I'm off to get out my coloured pens and some squared paper! I am wondering about making up some patterns to sell; it seems like a cute idea, and would give me an excuse to keep working on patterns, because they take far too long to stitch and sell the finished article. Might be something to mull over.

Sneaky Peek at my Latest Project

It has to be said, that sometimes when people come into my stall and say "I could make that", it drives me a little bit crazy and I have to stop myself from making "harumphf" type noises. But really, it fills me with happiness that people want to make things. Especially the little ones that come in. It's ace that they like the idea of making things themselves, after all, it is how these crafts and techniques get passed on. So in the spirit of encouragement, I have made some kits for making fabric yo-yo brooches!
The kits include enough fabric, buttons and brooch pins for three brooches, as well as instructions, and templates so that more and more and more can be made! I'm going to put some in the stall on Wednesday as a trial run, but I think they would be a great summer holiday/rainy day project. And they're not just for the kids, I hope that crafty adult folks will have a go too!

Stitchy Fun!

I'm progressing well with my new pattern. I've made a few amendments as I've gone along but generally I'm pretty pleased with it! I have the floral bit in the centre of the teacup still to do, but I got distracted by some un-doing and re-doing of my stripey blanket because it all went wonky, I must have been adding stitches without realising, but it's fixed now. I also have the edge of my flower blanket to finish - where does all the time go?!

My Creative Space

I have started another project. Because I'm a bit hopeless! I'm trying a pattern that I designed a couple of weeks ago, it's coming along pretty well so far. I've only stitched the tea steam so far and some of the polka dots, but hopefully it will be a pretty design. I'm thinking about making it into a purse when it's done, so I will do a nice back too.

Another Project Finished!

My new years resolution for 2011 was to finish all of my old projects before starting any new ones. Anyone that knows me knew that this was a long-shot. But yesterday, under the pretence that this resolution was still happening, I finished this bag...
I'm not sure how sturdy the strap will be, but I'm going to give it a test run at Stitch and Bitch this Friday, I'm pretty sure it will hold some of my other unfinished projects quite nicely...
And I made more birds today. I think it's a sickness. I love these little critters.

New Fabric Birds

After two of my little fabric birds flew away to new homes, I had a quick making session on Saturday afternoon.
I love the pretty fabric patterns and colours! I have lots more to make tomorrow at the stall, and today I have been working on some designs for commissions.

Lovely Day Out!

My apologies for the lack of post over the last few days; I managed to sneak away for a day out in London! I had a lovely time, I arrived late on Saturday night, and spent yesterday having a little mooch around, and came across the "West End Live" event in Trafalgar Square. I was so excited to see the various snippets from the shows, but I particularly enjoyed "The Wizard of Oz"...
(Not the best photograph, it was a bit hectic...) I also really enjoyed "Potted Potter" - I would love to see the whole show! After all the shenanigans in the square, I went to have a look around the Portrait Gallery and the Ida Kar exhibition which was quite interesting. This was my favourite photograph -

Another lovely day out. I'm back to work tomorrow after having a crochet day today; I have a sketchbook/prototype making day planned!

My Creative Space

After spending two solid days working on joining my granny square blanket, I needed a bit of a change, so I picked this blanket back up; I've been working on it for ages...
I've done eleven rows so far today, with the next three colours all picked out. I'm starting the edge of the other blanket tomorrow though, it's coming with me to Stitch and Bitch!!

Granny Square Blanket!

I finished joining all of my squares last night (in the end) so now I need to get to work on the edge! I have found a pattern that I like from the ever helpful and talented Lucy from Attic24. I think I might get started with that tomorrow because my brain is frazzled from a market meeting after work.
I have some really nice green/turquoise yarn that seems to be the ideal edge colour - nice and bright and cheerful. I think crocheting with a pot of tea and the last disc of "Pushing Daisies" series 2 will be the perfect day. I might go for a mooch around the charity shops first though...

Blanket is Nearly Done...

I have been quietly crocheting together my granny square blanket for the last two days, with the help of a certain Lady Grey and a very fluffy kitty (kitty is not as much help as the tea, in fact she keeps trying to sit on the in-progress blanket, so not very helpful at all).
After a bit of a disastrous set back, involving having to remove the (already joined in) centre blue square and unravelling it because I didn't have enough blue yarn to finish edging, I seem to be back on track and it should all be joined up soon. I have also found a nice edge pattern so that will be the next big job. Will hopefully be back later with some photos of the fully joined blanket.
There's a lovely post by Pip from Meet Me at Mikes that is very relevant today about the feeling of finishing a big project, it's well worth a read!

Flea Market Finds

My Flea Market Find this week was this terribly kitsch deer ornament! I'm not a huge fan of gold, but I couldn't leave this behind, it was just too cute! I seem to be accumulating rather a large deer collection now...
I have had a busy day crocheting a hat for my mum, and next I plan to make the last four pink granny squares for my blanket!

My Pippy Slippers are Done!!!

I just finished them! And I love them! They really do fit my freaky odd sized feet, I just made the smaller one with less rows at the back, and a slightly smaller toe. Perfect!
Thank you Pip! I will be making lots more I'm sure!!

My Creative Space

Today I am making the lovely Pippy Slippers so kindly shared by the delightful Pip of Meet Me at Mikes! I love the colours that Pip used so I have chosen blue, yellow and white so I can make similar ones! I have just finished the first one, and starting the second. I will post some pics when they're done - I love that the pattern will fit my weird odd sized feet.

More New Makings...

Some more of my makings from yesterday; I made two more little birds (the two outer ones) I have already had some really good feedback about them so I hope that they will be a nice addition to my little shop.
I also made cameo necklaces, to go with the new brooches. I only made them in black because I like the classic cameo and I wanted to see if my customers were interested in coloured ones before I went all loopy and made a bunch of them!
The cameos and birds will be labelled up and put on sale tomorrow, along with the cat and swallow brooches.

Busy Making!

I spent some time yesterday working on some new designs, as well as making some of my previous designs in new colours!

I've made cats as commissions and swallows in black, but it seemed like a good idea to try new colours for general stock. I particularly like the bright summery colours! I also tried a new design yesterday, something that I've been playing around with since my first year if uni; cameos!

I have plans for some more complicated designs too, involving making them more elaborate, but this is the first set of brooches... I really like cameos, there's something so elegant about them, and I liked the idea of trying them with modern colours. I think they've turned out pretty well!

Little Birds

I have been a busy bee today cutting out fabric and putting it into neat little piles of bird parts. There are body/wing parts and chest and head parts. There are lots of lovely colours and patterns and hopefully I can arrange them in such a way that they make pretty birds.
I start sewing on Wednesday; there are 25 birds to make, and that also means 50 little wire feet. I think I'm going to be busy for quite a while with this one. I am making them for my stall, I hope that they all find lovely homes where they will be loved.

Granny Square Blanket Pattern!

I thought it might be interesting to share the layout that I'm working to for my new blanket. The numbers relate to how many of each type or colour of square that I need to make; I've already finished the blue one, the twelve floral and twelve white and I have made fourteen of the twenty-four pink.
I'm hoping to have the squares finished by the end of the week so I can start putting it together next weekend! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished blanket!

Flea Market Finds

My super sweet Flea Market Find this week is this adorable salt and pepper set! On Thursday we went for a mooch around the charity shops in Shrewsbury, which is about 20 minutes away from Oswestry, and as well as these cute kitties, I found a string of white beads, some fabric and stitching stuff, and a frame that will be perfect (when I've painted it) for my stall wall!
At the moment, because they are far too cute to live in a kitchen cupboard, my new kitties live on the fireplace, but eventually they will find a home on the shelving that we are having made, it will be the length of our living room, and will hold all of our books, as well as vinyl and DVDs. I can't wait until we get them, it will be lovely to be all organised!

Only three this week, but they're very pretty!

Kitty has a New Friend!

This is my kitty Brian, and he has a new friend; a mini-monster!
I made this pocket-sized pal today as a prototype for a little version of my Button Monsters, partly as a way to make the most of my fabric stash, and because, quite frankly, I thought it would be cute. And I think I may have been right... I will be making more of them tomorrow, as well as some of the regular sized ones, but I think Brian may have claimed this little chap for his very own.
