Inspired by Cath Kidston!

I've mentioned it before, but I was very lucky to receive the Cath Kidston "Stitch!" book for Christmas. I completed the purse cross-stitch last month and was very excited indeed, so I started working on another piece last week.image from Messy Jesse

I took the pattern from this pin cushion and did a small piece in cross-stitch and silks rather than the larger tapestry type of thing in the book. It came out pretty well (I haven't photographed it yet) but I decided I wanted to try something a bit bigger...

So I started this yesterday. It's a big sewing project for me (given that I hadn't ever done anything like it until last month) but I'm determined that I will have made a pretty cushion as soon as possible! I have decided that the back will be polka dotty, (there's a pattern in the book for that too), and I think it will be pink or blue with white dots. I'm planning to blog about my progress regularly, so I will take a photograph tomorrow, it's still early days though!

My Creative Space

Rather than just showing what I'm actually working on this week, I thought I would give a little peek into some of my favourite nooks in my little stall...This is my work bench, where I made my jewellery - at the moment, just putting together chains and earrings, gluing on brooch backs and so on...This is my little cabinet, which I started out using to display jewellery, but it became apparent fairly quickly that it wasn't the best way to show off tiny things! So now it holds my button jars (all neatly sorted by colour), various yarn and lots of lovely books - and I like it lots more now!

And just because they're beautiful; my daffodils from Whirlwind Amy (and her lovely mum), they're so cheerful!

So that's what my space looks like today - it's fantastic to have somewhere so lovely to go, I look forward to work every day!

My Quilt!

As promised; my finished quilt! It's only very tiny, because I didn't want to waste fabric if it went wrong (ever the optimist, but to be fair it was my first go!) but I am actually really pleased with it, and plan to make a bigger one next time! This is the front...
and this is the spotty back! I'm so happy with it!

What I've been up to...

This is what my little table in my stall looked like today, all covered in flower-brooch-making paraphernalia...I have been a busy bee, making lots of pretty things! After my crocheting session on Thursday, I decided to put together the squares that I had prepared for my very first quilt - such pretty fabric!

I will be back tomorrow with photographs of the finished article (which I am quite proud of, despite it's off-centre joins and general wonky-ness), but for now I am going to settle on the sofa with a cup of tea and "Calvin and Hobbes", which never fails to bring me cheer!

My Creative Space

Today I was planning to have a day off, but of course, I am not able to sit still so I have been making more crocheted flowers for my stall! I love the brown and turquoise combination! I am going to put lovely buttons in the centres, I'm sure they will be very pretty!
As well as crocheting, I have been drinking tea, watching "Frasier" and making a donation to the Red Cross Tsunami Appeal.

Exciting News...

Those of you who are super-dooper observant will have noticed a little change on my list of "Lovely Places that Stock my Work" list - don't worry if you didn't spot it, it's not a competition, just a little lead up into big news - I am now supplying jewellery to the ever gorgeous BAJA in Shrewsbury! It's a fab little boutique on Grope Lane (my most favourite name for a lane) and I am very pleased to have provided a bunch of my laser cut goodies for sale in such a fine establishment!
It's a very exciting time for gemmipop designs!

Inspired...

This evening I want to eat homemade crumpets whilst reading "Pride and Prejudice" thanks to girlybunches and meetmeatmikes...Photo belongs to girlybunches
Yummy!
Also, we watched "Fantastic Mr Fox" tonight, and although it was a shame to see the beloved childhood story changed so dramatically, I have to say, I loved the dress with in-built paintbrush apron so beautifully modelled by Mrs Fox...
I'm thinking a variation with crochet hooks... could be a good look.
(slightly whimsical post, I am in one of those moods...)

My Creative Space

It's been a very busy day today, I made loads of new stock for the stall with the laser cutter, it's very exciting!Add ImageI packaged up the things that I made on Monday ready to go out on sale tomorrow, and I also did all of this... These pieces are brooches, I glued them all up today too! (I also made a bunch of bird and deer necklaces, but I seem to have forgotten to photograph them - silly me!) aI made hearts which will be used for earrings like these... and thunder-bolts and rain drops for these new brooches...
I really love them! I'm also going to do some earrings in a similar style, there's just not enough hours in the day!
So tomorrow I will be packaging up the things that I cut out today, it's just one big cycle!

More Laser Cutting...

Here's what I've been up-to today; lots of fun cutting things out!
And as promised, the Welsh dragons I've been working on! The bottom is the necklace that I made this morning, I tried it on to make sure it sat just right! I really do love the laser cutter, I'm amazed by all the fantastic things it does!
