Knitting Fun!

I have managed to squeeze a little bit of knitting time into my busy schedule and have finished my first two pages of patterns from "the Harmony Guide to knitting stitches"!
Starting from my most recent swatch, we have Dotted Ladder Stitch and Ladder Stitch...
Reverse Sticking Stitch Chevrons and Double Basket weave...
Check Stitch and Double Fleck Stitch...Fleck Stitch and Diagonal Garter RibsMoss stitch, double moss stitch and Box Stitch...

And finally Dot Stitch and Stocking Stitch Triangles!

Some are more obvious than others, but I'm pleased to be having a go at them! I have started the next swatch in green, I'm planning to stitch them all together at the end to make a big blanket!

My Creative Space

Well, today is the end of an era in the creative space department - this is my very last post from my workshop at uni before my final assessment! If the workshop features again I will have officially left uni, and probably be there making things for myself (prototypes and stuff to sell etc). So here it is, the workshop that has been my second home for the last three years...

It's a little bit messy, and everything is a little bit worn around the edges, but I will always have fond memories, and some fairly crazy fun mishaps, to look back on...

So this is my bit of space today, all filled with busy makings for my degree show which is a week tomorrow...and just as a little sneak preview, here are the pieces that I'm working on...

They're not quite done yet, but I'm pretty pleased with how they're coming along. I'm hoping my degree show will be a huge success!

New Jewellery

I've been playing with some acrylic designs in my little bit of spare time. These pieces are very different to my degree work, full of colour and fun! I laser cut these toadstools before Christmas, and I'm only just getting around to finishing them off! They still don't have any jewellery findings, but they will be brooches and a necklace, I think they're so much fun! This is a new design I've been toying with that I've had a go at putting together in a rough prototype.
I want to make some more prototypes in this range, I'm really excited to see where it's going... If only I had a little time to get on with it!

Flea Market Finds

I haven't had much time to get around the shops lately, but I did pop to the market yesterday and found this! I'm pretty excited because it's the crochet version of the knitting book I picked up recently, and I've really enjoyed making swatches from it in my (limited) spare time. So once I'm done with the knitting swatches, I plan to move on to this!

My Creative Space

Today's creative space comes from uni, where Amy and I have been making more knitting needle bangles! We made two each to wear, plus three which we sold instantly to other students!
This is one of the students daughters who was visiting, she chose this super red one, which is the twin of the bangle that I made for myself.

This is Sam's bangle,

and this is Rachael's bangle!

I've been doing some uni work too, but this was the most fun! We also had Cake and Make, I've been working on some knitting swatches which are going well!

Shopping List Sunday

Yet again I'm shopping listing on Sunday instead of Saturday, but better late than never! So onto this weeks goodies...ASTRID PURSE by lastdayofmay

Limited edition card - You are My Favourite by gemmabear

I'm off to make more scarves now, I do so love finger-knitting! I'm watching "You've Got Mail" at the moment, and I always smile at the part where she writes about a butterfly in the Subway, because there was a wasp in the underground in Liverpool when Amy and I went last month... not quite as pretty as a butterfly but equally unusual. I wonder if he was going to the theatre, or maybe to Tate Liverpool to take in some art?

Flea Market Finds

We had a lovely little mooch around the charity shops and a jumble sale yesterday, and here are some of my finds...

I found the "Dressmaking with Liberty" book in the jumble sale, it has all sorts of pretty (uncut) patterns all tucked neatly in the back, as well as a whole floral teaset for a very modest £1.50! There are six cups and saucers and six side plates. I have plans for them, which hopefully I will be sharing in the near future! I also picked up three bundles of lace and the small reels of crochet cotton for 60p, and the latest addition to my shell animal collection!

As well as my flea market finds, I had a super find in my friend's fantastic vintage stall whilst on my travels! Linda La-La-Land is the most fabulous little treasure trove, and I could regularly come home with a whole bag-full of lovely things! This little bag caught my eye, the perfect mix of polka dots and floral print, and in the perfect summery orange. I also love that when I opened it I caught the scent of face powder! I may well have to build my degree show preview night outfit around this little bag...

My Creative Space

It's been a few weeks since I've creative spaced, things have been so hectic, and unfortunately, at times not very productive! I have three weeks until my final assessment now, but this afternoon I took a little bit of time out to try something new...Shockingly, I have been doing ceramics! Nothing too taxing, but lovely Amy taught me how to make buttons! We've done the porcelain slip into little circles, and tomorrow when it's a bit drier we're going to poke holes into them before we fire them, and pick glazes! I have never really been good at ceramics, and although it wasn't all that dramatic, I feel like it was a bit of a breakthrough for me! I made the two large ones on the left and the three small ones on the right. I hope they look good when they're done! I have also been working on my knitting swatch, it is coming along well, I will post some pics when I've done the first batch! Oh, and just for the sake of sating curiosity, today I wore my yellow flowery earrings (see yesterday's "goodies in the post" post!) and tomorrow will be a red and white polka dot day!

Goodies in the Post!

Today was a super-dooper post day! The lovely earrings that I bought by jewlswashere have arrived and they're gorgeous! The only problem will be deciding which ones to wear first!!

Aren't they pretty!

And the new Hole cd arrived, can't wait to give it a listen! And because I forgot to post a pic already, here is my new bag...

there's a bit of a theme emerging here!

It's been a funny day, I've had a few problems with my jewellery making, things aren't going to plan just yet, but I've also spent some time with some of my most favourite people, with lots of tea drinking involved! Tomorrow I'm sure will bring new ideas and solutions, and I am really looking forward to hanging out with my lovely friends at "Cake and Make".

Knitting Needle Bangles!

I've been wanting to make knitting needle bangles for ages, ever since I saw them on Etsy (it's so long ago in fact, that I don't even remember who it was that was selling them to give them credit, but I am sending a bit thank-you into the universe). So today my little partner in crime, Amy, and I, set about making that very thing. It started simply enough, I had two odd (but far too lovely to dispose of) vintage plastic knitting needles, one cream and one turquoise. So we decided to bangle-ise them (that's a whole new word that we made up for the process). I went first with the turquoise, which turned out ace, but the cream one broke. So for the sake of us both having a bangle, we just HAD to go shopping! So we picked up a very skinny green pair of needles and a mis-matched yellow and red pair (and I got a gorgeous white pair, which are for actual knitting, strangely enough!) So, we set up camp in the workshop and got down to business! And here's what we came up with...

A good joint effort I think! I did the shaping (in very gorgeous heat proof gloves) and Amy did the heating (very well too, I came away completely unscathed!). So I got yellow and turquoise, and Amy got red and green, and we were both very happy! A jolly good day it has to be said!

Hole - Manchester, 7th May 2010

On Friday I rekindled an old love - we went to see my favourite band, who have been my favourite band since I was twelve - we went to see Hole. It was amazing, and well worth the thirteen year wait to see them!
Please indulge me a few photos, I am still in awe!
Fantastic! The highlight for me was when there was a problem with the amp and they played one of my favourite songs - "Best Sunday Dress" - acoustically. It was quite something.

Flea Market Finds

I've tried to make some time for niceness this weekend (I have yet another assessment tomorrow) so yesterday we had a nice morning off, looking around the charity shops and here are my goodies...

and "I love Crochet" - I've been doing well lately for craft books! I started making my first swatch from my super knitting book that I picked up last week, I've barely had time to think lately but I want to try and keep doing some of the things I love in my spare time!
