Shopping List Sunday

It feels like ages since I last stopped by here, had a very big assessment on Friday which I spent the whole week preparing for and luckily it went very well. So I'm back now, slightly more normal (but with 4 weeks to the end of my degree that may not last for long...) with my Shopping List. The gorgeous Spring days we've been having have inspired me to look forward, yet again, to the days that are free from uni work, and the promise they hold... An accidental Herb basket, collecting basket by JohnToftBesketry - this would be perfect for collecting eggs and lovely veg (broccoli, asparagus, peas, beans and so on!)
Hannah Earrings by jewlswashere - earrings for vintage shopping
Comfort Food ... Handwritten Letter and My Own Lemon Bar Recipe by flyinghousewife - Lovely - make the Lemon Bar and eat in the garden whilst reading the letter

Ceramic Mug by thirdbird - for a big cup of tea

I will be back later with my Flea Market Finds, but for now I have some tiny sewing to do!

Flea Market Finds

My flea market find this week was not really my find, it was my lovely mother-in-laws! My MIL did a super save for me in the charity shop where she volunteers, these little bits (in a bag with some general sewing bits) were about to be thrown away...I can't believe how close they were to the scrap heap, naughty shop manager with her frivolous throwing away habits!!

I have already made the cigar box my own, filling it with my sewing stuff, in tribute to the seamstress who owned it last (it had several well used needles and odd bits inside, I've not thrown them away, but they weren't much use to me in their current state!). Really quite sweet little things, I am so pleased to give them a home!

My Creative Space

My Creative Space this week is mostly about getting ready for my assessment next week. I have been working on design sheets and my sketchbooks mostly, documenting my design process and showing the progression from idea to finished piece. I have also been taking a little bit of time for some crocheting, working on some pretty little flowers...and this big granny square! I found the wool in a charity shop, unfortunately I only have one ball of each colour so I'm just going around until I run out! We're going out for a cup of tea now, as my 'to do' list is pretty much done, so I can take the rest of the day to relax! I will also no doubt be spending some time in the garden with the chickens, who have all laid an egg for the day! I'm so proud!
For more lovely creative spaces head on over to see Kirsty!

First Egg!

This really isn't going to turn into "the Chicken Diaries" or anything, but we've had our first egg! We're quite thrilled! It was still warm from sitting under a little bottom (we're not sure which of the ladies left it for us, but they're all getting praise!) and it's a lovely colour! I'm going to do some proper work now, and will be back later with my creative space, but I just wanted to show what the girls are making this morning!

Introducing The Ladies...

Well, they're here - the lovely ladies have arrived, and they're just amazing! We've named them Edna, Beryl and Mabel, and they're setting in very well. At the moment they're roosting in their house for the night, but they've had a nice afternoon looking around and picking at the grass, as well as their evening snack of toast and marmite! They are fab, and we can't wait for their first eggs, and we're really looking forward to pottering around the garden with them!

Embroidery Hoops...

Here they are, all laid out and pretty (at least I think so...), my embroidery hoops! I'm a little nervous about assessments, but I will always know that my work is my own, and I hope that the fact that I stood by my convictions will see me through!

I've had a pretty relaxed day today, we put together our new "Eglu Go" Chicken Coop this morning (we got the yellow one - it's fab!), and our chickens will be arriving tomorrow - we're both very excited! I will be sure to post pics of the chooks and our first eggs! And, just to prove that I actually took a break after I'd finished my work yesterday... my chive scones! They are really quite yummy, topped with some smoked applewood cheese! Mmmmm!

Another Job Done!

It's been a bit of a hard slog, but I've finished my latest pieces for uni! They are purely decorative in of themselves, but serve a function for me; they are a kind of intermediate stage, which leads onto two separate threads - fabric designs (into things like interior decoration, fabric wraps, bags etc) and jewellery. It's a relief to get them done, they need to be photographed ready for our degree show book and New Designers which is in London in July. I would be happier if the jewellery range were complete to accompany them but c'est la vie!
So, anyway, here they are....

They are a variety of sizes, from 4" to 8", not obvious at this stage, but I will be photographing them tomorrow together so it will be easier to see how they relate to each other. So, next I am going to be working on my fabric and jewellery designs, the next stage! For this evening, as a reward, I plan to relax a little, I've just taken chive scones out of the oven and I'm going to be watching a film and working on my latest granny square!

Flea Market Finds

My lovely find this week was this sweet little storage rack which sits nicely on my office desk. I found it in a lovely little charity shop that I hadn't been to before in Ruthin on Thursday, and was quite thrilled!

At the moment it is holding my little research books, which are a work in progress of collecting bits and bobs so that I have plenty to look at for inspiration when I've finished uni, but eventually it will store my projects on my desk (crochet and knitting, fabric etc), so they will be neat and conveniently to hand!

My Creative Space

It's been a lovely day, spent at Ruthin Craft Centre, with three of my most favourite people! We loved the Becky Adam exhibition, it was ever so pretty, but of course, there has to be a bit of work for every bit of play! So here's my creative space for this week, my little desk in my sunshiny little office!
This is my new storagey thing, which was my top charity shop purchase today, it's very pretty, and the perfect thing for keeping all my desky bits and bobs neat!I've been working hard on my sewn pieces, and have finally finished this one, with all of it's hand sewn embellishment! And this is the back, with very pretty vintage fabric, my "handmade by gemmipop designs" label, plus a bit of gingham for good measure!

And finally my lovely pile of goodies from Ruthin Craft centre's little shop; the book that goes with Becky's delightful exhibition, plus all the postcards, and a book of Angie Lewin's beautiful jewellery. Food for the soul I think!

Tomorrow is plotted out to be a very busy day, but for now, I plan to spend this evening enjoying my new books, and some well deserved time with my hubby!

Flea Market Finds

I'm quite a bit late with my Flea Market Find this week, but since it's one of my most favourite finds I think it was worth the wait...

I found this little treasure when we were at the seaside last Friday, it was tucked away in one of the charity shops, and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be coming home with me! Not only is the sweet little drawing on the top just perfect for me (kitties and knitting!), but I just love the little compartments inside for all of my various bits and bobs! I've always loved boxes with compartments, ever since I was a little girl and I used to play with my Gran's big wooden jewellery box, putting all my little people inside and playing make-believe. Not sure what will be stashed away inside this one yet, but I'm sure it will be lovely!

Lovely Post!

Today has been a lovely day for goodies in the post! Here's what arrived today...
some very nice new books, hubby bought me the "Print and Pattern" one, and the others were presents to myself for inspiration!

and most exciting of all, my fabric order from Spoonflower which is just fab (I was so excited that I didn't even iron it before taking pics!!). After spending a couple of hours playing around with the site to see what it could do, I am going to be ordering lots more now I know how good the quality is. A very exciting day of post indeed!

What a Weekend!

I have spent a lovely couple of days in London with my hubby as our Easter getaway! This weekend we spent the whole time together as this was an actual holiday rather than me just tagging along on a work thing, and we had a fantastic time! On Sunday we hit Tate Britain for strawberry ice cream, tea and art. We went to see the Henry Moore exhibition which was really amazing, and very inspirational - I spent ages jotting down notes and doing some sketching...We also saw the Chris Ofili Exhibition, which, quite frankly, had a little too much elephant poop for my taste. Nice colours though. After Tate Britain, we mooched on over to the Royal Academy for The Real Van Gogh; the Artist and his Letters which was amazing, really quite enjoyed!
We went to our favourite Greek restaurant in the evening, which was the perfect end to the day!

Yesterday was equally fab, with a bit of a random start - as we wondered through Trafalgar Square, with our tummies full from a very yummy breakfast, we spotted a commotion on the steps, so nosy as we are, we headed towards it to see the filming of a scene from Ugly Betty!

After that excitement we headed to Tate Modern, and took advantage of our membership for a nice relaxing cup of tea in the member's room, with this spectacular view...

We also went to the Michelangelo exhibition at Somerset House, and had a lovely wander around Covent Garden before heading home. Today is all about work, so I'm off to get started - I am working on fabric designs today!

My Creative Space

I am enjoying my Easter holidays so far, with a bit of work here and there, as well as spending some time relaxing before my last term at university. My work is coming along quite well; I have had some fabric with my flower-bird printed up (and I can't wait for it to arrive), as well as designing jewellery, and sewing my embroidery hoop pieces - and here they are so far...

They need to be finished, and the backs prettified, and the daisy chain needs to be sewn onto the fabric, but so far, I like them!
