Flea Market Finds

My finds this week were from yesterday, I had a lovely (albeit rainy) day out in Shrewsbury with my hubby, and I had a good old root around in the charity shops. I love looking around charity shops that are away from home, it's nice to have a change of scenery, although little old Oswestry really does have some fantastic shops! So, to my lovely finds...

Some very sweet patterns, "Modern Crochet By Penelope", purple plastic knitting needles, some pretty fabric and a gorgeous Laura Ashley flowery scarf. I've got big plans for the fabric (don't I always...), mostly more softies, but possibly a bag or two! I've just started a new project, inspired by lovely friend Linda - the Knitted Odd Bod "Humphrey Hare", since it's a rainy old day that is perfect for cups of tea, favourite movies and makings! I also have a bit of work to do, I've picked up lots of paint sample cards so that I can play with colour combinations for my embroidered pieces, so I shall be whipping out the glue and scissors in a short while!

Busy Week and Lovely Shopping!

It's been a busy couple of days in my little world! I've been offered a placement at Tatty Devine for work experience, which was the interview I went to on Wednesday in London, and I'm thrilled! I feel very proud that it's something that I aimed for and achieved by myself, it helps me to feel that I'll be okay when this big university thing is over. I had two very lovely purchases whilst on my trip to the big city... This lovely brooch from Lucie-Ellen "made from a reproduction of a vintage image and reclaimed ply wood, cut and finished by hand in a shed in a garden in Suffolk". It's really just so sweet! And I picked up this fabulous book by one of my most favourite artists Mr. Rob Ryan. It is full of beautiful things.
I picked up this book on Tuesday on a very quick trip to the charity shop by my bus stop at uni. It's from the 1950s I think, and is very pretty.
And tonight I picked up these sweet little books from the shop that hosts the Friday night "Stitch and Bitch", from a box of annuals from the 1970s and 80s. The "Twinkle" book is from 1985 which seemed worth rescuing since it's the year that I was born! And the colouring book is just pure kitsch! I had a lovely time with some of my most favourite ladies, and was so chuffed for Natasha as she took her first steps into what will no-doubt become an obsession- learning to knit! I'm going to help her with some fingerless gloves next week, since they are lovely, and would be a pretty good starter project for quick and satisfying results!
This afternoon I have been working on some uni work, I'm starting to embroider the outline of my floral print in purple. I've also been playing with some photo editing software to try out some different colourways that would work with the design - It's not the quickest way for me to do these things when I'm so used to doing everything with pens and paper, but I got some pretty good effects!

My Creative Space

Today I have mostly been relaxing after my trip to the big city yesterday, I went to London for an interview for work experience, but I did (just) have the energy to go to my lovely Thursday evening knitting group with my ever so fabulous uni friends!

This is Amy's sock knitting gadget, which belonged to her grandmother. It still had the last pair of socks that she made all hooked up from over eighteen years ago. It is a lovely sock too, grey with a pink top. And here's what I've been working on; a blue tube scarf that I started last night on the long train journey home, and the big granny square that I've getting on with slowly.

I've been working on my granny square blanket today, and my boys tried it out for me!Aren't they sweet!? They've been napping next to us all day as we've been working away; hubby is marking some of his students work and I've started to hand sew some of the detail onto one of my sample prints. The little bit I've done so far looks pretty effective, I'm working with purple thread on a pink print. I'm taking a little break to do some grannying now though, I've been working on this square for a while now so I want to make some progress!

Flea Market Finds

I had some lovely little finds yesterday! On my way to get supplies for uni we called in to my favourite charity shops and I got these little sweeties...Both will soon be installed in my newly tidied office space, I'm going to put the clogs on the wall and the pin jar will go on the desk.
For more Flea Market Finds have a little wander over to see Sophie at Her Library Adventures!
On my little outing I got all the things I needed for uni; fabric paints, a paint roller and embroidery hoops in various sizes. My first attempts at painting onto fabric were pretty successful and I love the colours.

The next stage will be to perfect the design and make a new stencil because the old one is already worn out! Then I will be working on an actual piece rather than just trying out sample pieces. I love this part of the design process, where it's all starting to come together and I can see what happens next!

My Creative Space

My creative space this week is full of uni work, I'm trying out my floral stencil, just to get an idea of how it will look on fabric.

It's working quite well, and I think I'm going to try lino cutting next. I love the colour, and I'm also going to try black, purple and white on black paper.

For more creative spaces, it's a hop, skip and a jump over to see Kirsty

Flea Market Finds

My flea market finds this week come from our very special Valentines trip to the seaside! We had a lovely time in the beautiful little Welsh town of Llandudno, complete with charity shops and Victorian tea-rooms. My haul of goodies was amazing; lots of interiors magazines full of sweet photographs, pillow cases, plastic knitting needles, buttons, a wooden cotton reel, an embroidery hoop, and "Kaffe Knits Again". And these sweet vintage packs of needles and pins, all with little layers of paper. They're so sweet and compact! I also picked up a beautiful Indian layered throw, which I will photograph tomorrow to show it off properly in daylight! My dear sweet hubby also surprised me with some sweet wooden dolly pegs and a pack of paper doilies. I've got some lovely plans for all these little treasures, and I'm going to enjoy some time to myself this week to play!

For more Flea Market Finds wander on over to see Sophie, and join in for a chance to win her lovely Valentines brooch! Isn't it beautiful?!

Little Shopping Trip

I took a little personal time this afternoon, and had a little mooch around the shops with my sister. Got some sweet little goodies... The fabric is a huge pillow case, which may end up as another cute little plushie. The sewing pattern is for teens, but I just love the illustration! It's most unlike me to take any time off, but it was nice to relax, it's been a somewhat stressful day!

My Creative Space

Today I have been to Spring Fair 2010 in Birmingham, so no actual creative space, but I made this little lady last night! Her name is Binky, and she's based on a plushie that the decorative arts students at uni have been making. I made her out of one of five very gorgeous pillow cases that I picked up in a charity shop yesterday, all different colours and patterns. I tried to cut it so that she had flowery knee socks and plain hands. I wanted her arms to come out of her head because that's how I used to draw people when I was small. She has a knitted mouth, one wooden button eye and one plastic.

And as I was trying to get a photograph of her back and label, my little friend Mr. Norman George decided to get in on the action! Isn't he a cutie-pie! I love the outtakes from photo shoots!

So, for more loveliness, pop on over to see Kirsty at kootoyoo!

Designing Pretty Flowers!

This afternoon I have been working on some designs, and trying some cutouts.
I'm planning to try out some screen-printing, so once it was all cut out I laminated it and then tried some colours behind the pattern to see how it looks. Here are my favourites...

It was a labour of love, I spent a bit of time stopping my finger from bleeding - I really should know better than playing with craft knives by now!! I think it was worth it though, I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I've also had a bit of excitement today...

What I've Been Up To...

Aside from the usual uni work, I thought I'd share some of the other things that I've been up to...

I'm reading three books at the moment, since my concentration levels are a little crazy! I'm half-way through "The Friday Night Knitting Club" and really enjoying it! I've only just started "The Underpainter", and yet to form an opinion, but the language is very beautiful so far.

I'm also in the process of knitting another tube scarf, I have two big granny square blankets on the go, and I have plans to make a pair of pink gloves from four balls of yarn that are too small to use for anything on their own. And of course I am grannying away for "Granny A Day" (although it's not quite one a day, more as many as I can when I have some spare time!).

The "proper" stuff is going well too, I have big plans for learning to silk screen print, so I am working on designs until I am ready to start printing!

My Bedroom!

I've had a good old sort out in the boudoir as a result of buying my new dresser and needing to make room for it! So, here's a little look around...Here's my new dresser, installed and lookin' sassy! My desk with my notebooks and bits and bobs!
And my wall, with my board, and some more of my crazy Blythe collection!
My cosy chair with some crocheted goodness, and yet more Blythes! And my chest of drawers with some bits-and-bobs on top, and my mannequin! I think everything is looking pretty now, it's a very cosy little nook to relax in!
