Pretty Fabric

Gorgeous new fabric over at St. Jude's, I particularly love this festive red and white "Bird Garden" design by Mark Hearld, it's really quite lovely...

We're enjoying a quiet evening in with old movies, we just watched "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" (1959) and next is "The Time Machine" (1960). Another busy day planned for tomorrow on the stall; I have been making pretty cushions from vintage floral pillow cases, so I have a couple of ideas to try tomorrow if I'm not too busy!

Festive Shopping Pretties!

Having missed both Friday Folksy Favourites and Shopping List Saturday, I thought I would combine the two with some of my favourite festive goodies from Folksy and Etsy. So here they are...
So many lovely festive things, I'm feeling very much in the spirit! I started a scarf for my dad today, as a last minute extra pressie, so I've been knitting frantically, and will probably be working on it all week in the stall. I will be open from Monday-Friday (Christmas Eve) from 9-4 and will be looking forward to seeing lots of lovely people and spreading festive cheer!

Shark!

Here he is! This is the crochet shark hand-puppet that I made for a very sweet little chap who popped into my stall. I couldn't find a pattern I liked that didn't involve all kinds of technical craziness, so I made this up as I went along. I'm pretty pleased with it, and when I gave it to the little boy on Saturday he was so excited that he couldn't speak! I'm so glad he liked it.

Flea Market Finds

I had a very exciting day yesterday, and the source of much of that excitement was this...

so very many buttons! This lovely find was made by my neighbour in the market who regularly frequents the local auctions, and he managed to pick this up for £2 for me! I managed to resist up-ending the jar for about two minutes, there's some really lovely goodies in there, I can't wait to start using them!

Pop over to see Sophie Isobel for more Flea Market Finds!

Shopping List Saturday

Check me out, actually posting "Shopping List Saturday" on a Saturday! I've had a super busy day, and made a little chap very happy with a Shark Hand-Puppet (pics tomorrow!), and now I'm just taking it easy and knitting "Humphrey Hare" from the always inspiring "Knitted Odd-Bod Bunch" book. So here's my list of gorgeousness...Purse organizer insert with ENCLOSED BOTTOM / Green Leaves by DivideAndConquer

My Creative Space

This is my space from yesterday. A very nice lady came in and wanted a brooch to use as a fastener for her bag, but the yo-yo brooch I had for sale (the one on the right) was a little bit too dark, so we had a chat and figured out what she wanted and I made up a special one just for her (on the left). It was really great to work with a customer so I could make the perfect thing for her.

It's been a funny day, I planned to make lots of things but I still seem to be getting over the lurgy, and the frozen pipes finally defrosted and I had a bit of a flood to mop up. So I haven't been very productive! I have lots of plans for tomorrow though, so hopefully everything will be better.

Button Monsters!

I have been busy making lots of Button Monsters for my stall! They're all unique and have their own little personalities... and each one has their own little tag...This is my favourite tag, I love the name Mortimer! They'll all be tagged and ready to go on sale tomorrow, I hope they go to good homes!

Makings!

I've had a crazy week of making and designing, and my poor blog has suffered a little, but I have just passed the 300th post mark! Quite a milestone, and things have certainly changed a lot since I started my blog in the second year of uni; I didn't think for a moment that I would have my own little stall, or be selling regularly to wonderful customers - I never would have had the confidence to think that people would want to buy anything I made, and to be honest, I am still always so touched and grateful that the things that I make are so well liked. I love that going to "work" means making pretty things all day, that I am doing it all for myself and no-one else. It's a good life and I feel very lucky. So, anyway, after that little rambling divergence, here's what I've been upto...My first batch of yo-yo brooches are done and for sale in the stall, and thanks to the lovely Vicky at Luna Wolf, I have a huuugggggggggge stack of gorgeous fabric offcuts to start making a new bundle! I may well start them tomorrow (although I really have to catch up with my letters too, when will there ever be enough hours in the day...)I bought a fabric stash from SharingOlives on etsy and just loved this bird design, so I made a little something for myself on Thursday - this sweet little bird brooch. I wore it on Friday and it really made me smile!
I'm going to get back to my crochet flowers for a bit longer before I give into the lurgy which is starting to come on, but I'll be back soon!

Makings!

Aside from jaunting around London, I have been doing some work! I have been making some slightly bigger yo-yo brooches, with all kinds of coloured and patterned fabric. I really love making them, and it's so lovely to have a great big space to work in! It was a quiet day on Friday in the stall, so I spread all of my fabric on the counter and set to cutting out some circles. I really enjoyed working there, and lots of people popped in to see what I was doing. Today I have had a day off, but tomorrow I will be getting some making done, I have some new ideas to get on with and I'll be finishing some things off. I am planning to make some of these Crochet Flower Rings to use in my stall as picture frames, the tutorial is fantastic, and they're ever so cute! I will also be preparing for the first of my "Crochet Christmas" sessions, which is on Friday, I hope lots of people will come along!

A Day Out In London

I had a lovely little day out in London yesterday! Hubby had a meeting, so I hopped on the tube for a shopping session at Camden Market. I was supposed to be buying Christmas presents, but mostly just bought stuff for myself. I absolutely loved the Mexican Folk Art stall which I found for the first time yesterday (not sure if it's new or I just missed it before, it's such a huge market!), and I took a sneaky pic on my phone, it was just amazing! From the market, I went over to see the Dazzle jewellery exhibition at the National Theatre on the South Bank. There were lots of familiar names, but some very exciting new stuff too, I particularly liked Jenny Llewellyn's silver and silicone pieces... www.jennyllewellyn.com

and also Kathryn Partington's beautiful textile pieces...
it's worth checking out the Dazzle website, there's some amazing work on show this year!
After Dazzle I went onto The National Gallery, The Portrait Gallery, and I spent the rest of the day in the British Museum. It was a very busy day but I had a lovely time!

A Little Bit of Fame...

Here I am in the local paper promoting the Market's Christmas opening hours! Check out those snazzy antlers!
And these are my new fliers, which I have distributed around the shops in Oswestry today! Aren't they cute!?

Yo-Yo Brooches

This is the first batch of yo-yo brooches that I made this weekend. I particularly like the pink one, the hessian is puffs up really well! Today I have been making little pouch envelopes to put small brooches in, they're made from magazine fashion pages, I thought they would be ideal for the yo-yos and flowers.

I am going to be making some more yo-yos this afternoon, and starting some more button monsters!

Bunches of Flowers

Here are the flowers that I made yesterday, I love the feeling of finishing things and putting them straight on sale! My first week on the stall was fantastic, it's a really cosy little nook, and it feels very festive now that I have my Christmas tree up! This afternoon I am going to be making yo-yo brooches with hessian and gingham, and pretty buttons, I'll take some pics when they're done.

Stall Opening!

Saturday was the big Open Day on the stall, and it was lovely! I met lots of very nice people and crocheted between customers, and felt very pleased with my efforts at making the stall my own. So here's the finished stall...and the cabinet which I have decorated with fairy lights and mismatched crockery...and some lovely photographs that my hubby took of the stock inside my cabinet...

I am already looking forward to Wednesday, which is my next day open to the public, and tomorrow I will be in the stall painting the frame on a mirror that I picked up today, and attaching a garland that I have made to the ceiling.

My Creative Space

My Creative Space today is all about my stall! I have finally done all the making-pretty that I wanted to do, and I'm so pleased! All of the stock is out, everything that should be on the wall is on the wall, and I'm so pleased! The counter has a bunch of stock displayed in cake stands. This is the inside of the glass cabinet. I put some nice wallpaper in the back, because the fabric was looking a bit tired, so now it looks all fresh. I bought fairy lights so it could be lit up, and there's lots of snazzy stuff in there, all displayed on pretty teacups, dishes, bowls and vintage lace doilies that I have been collecting just for this purpose!

There's still a couple of odd jobs to do (battery for clock, bulb for lamp, plugs to wire...), but I'm ready to open on Saturday! I hope lots of people will come and say hello, I'm very excited and very scared!
