All available on etsy now!!

My Creative Space

A bit late, but partly because I was so busy with my work!!

I've been doing a fair bit of uni work, had some pretty cool ideas, looking forward to getting into the workshop to make some stuff! Also been knitting like mad, I'm trying to raise some money to get me to the New Designers Exhibition in London next June, so I'm making lots of little things that I can do at home while I don't have a workshop to use! I got a bunch of brooch backs (about 300!) so that should keep me going for a while!
For more creative spaces head on over to kootoyoo! I'm off for a lovely day in Chester, and hoping that this rare bit of British sunshine will last for the rest of the day!

My Creative Space

This week I've been seriously getting into my work for next term. The shabby chic idea I had seems to be working well, and I've got a couple of designs in mind! Here's what I'm working on, an idea with blue and white willow pattern, all my books, and some knitted flowers. I've been commissioned to make two more, and the black and white wool is for that!

Close ups of my contextual book and sketchbook pagesand my blue and white plate - before and after! I'll get some pictures of what I'm planning to do with the pieces soon...I'm quite excited to get started.

I went to look for tools today, got some snazzy drill bits, and checked out the prices. This afternoon we made raspberry jam which is setting at the moment. It looks yummy!

Pop on over to kootoyoo for more creative spaces! I'm off to do a bit more work, going to sort through all my bits of broken plate!

My Busy Day!

Had a super fab day today, been to Wolverhampton, and went to see "Last Chance Harvey", which was a very sweet film. We stopped at a lovely cafe in Tettenhall, called Relish, and it's just the nicest little nook! I took a sneaky pic, just because it's so gorgeous that I want to live there!
This evening I've been working on some stuff for the shabby chic thing I'm working on, been looking at blue and white willow print for some inspiration. I will be smashing this plate soon, but for good reason....
I'm still pulling pics out of magazines and sticking into my inspiration book, and from there will be getting ideas for things to research for my contextual file (the book with birds). I've started my new sketchbook, and am putting down some of my first design I'm basically at three different stages all at once because I just can't stop my brain from whirring around! We start work on my workshop tomorrow, I have plans to paint the walls all kinds of lovely colours, to inspire me and make the space feel like my own (it's a laundry room at the moment - not hugely inspiring!).

I'm still knitting flowers too, here's the one I made last week being worn by my ever helpful sister! I have put it onto etsy, and tomorrow I will be listing a flower made from the same colour wool but with a bigger centre button, and a blue version with a floral centre.

So, that's what I've been up to! Tomorrow, I am going to look at tools and various machinery for my workshop with my dad, I'm mostly going to look at prices to get an idea of how much it will cost to get everything I need... I'm hoping it will not be too scary! But, back to work for now!

What I've Been Up To and Shopping List Sunday

Had a lovely couple of days, hubby has just finished school for 6 1/2 weeks, so on Friday we went out for dinner and to see the new Harry Potter movie. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it because I'm such an obsessive lover of the books that I've been disappointed with all but the first two films. But it was great, and I'm so glad that they left in Dumbledore's admission that he loves knitting patterns!

Yesterday we had a jam-packed day of fun! Went to Walsall art gallery in the morning, it was the last day of a fantastic exhibition called "Pot Luck" which is about food and art.

It was a really good exhibition, and really relevant to my dissertation too! The highlights were the sweet smelling chocolate fountain, and the sponge cake bricks by Aaron Head. After that we had a look around the shops and then set off for the Warwick University Art Centre to see "the Reader". I planned to read the book first, but as the chance came up to see the film in the cinema we thought we'd have a look. I was really touched by it and was in tears for most of the last half an hour, it was a very intense and powerful story, so I'll be reading that very soon.

Today we will be going to Betty's cafe for tea and cake (lemon drizzle for me today I think - yummy!), and watching films since it's a lovely rainy day.

So, my next couple of shopping lists will come from some of the lovely jewellery I have saved in my will be rings!

My Creative Space

I'm still working on the brief for uni today, pulling some ideas together and looking at themes. I've also been knitting this little mug cosy which has been keeping my tea warm...

This is some more of the fun I've been having at uni, this gigantic piece of silver is for the top of the mace. I'm learning lots, and going to try to do more silver next year as I'm gaining lots of confidence from this extra practice!

Head over to kootoyoo for more creative spaces...I'm off to watch "A Life Less Ordinary" and have a cup of tea!

Silver-smithing + knitting + books=Fab day!

Had another super day of silver-smithing, today I did stick soldering for the first time, as well as texturing and cleaning the silver... Here's some pics of me doing some texturing - check out the amazing hammer - it has teeth! Also, the fact that I'm standing on a wooden pallet because I'm so short (it has been affectionately nicknamed "the Stage"!).

I have another day tomorrow, looking forward to trying out a bit more of this fancy new soldering technique! Had a lovely time at Knit and Natter tonight, working on my Flamingo! Bought some books in the library sale too, including Katrin Cargill's "Curtain Bible" which has some gorgeous photographs!

Recent Makings and a new drill!

Thought I'd share some of the things I've been working on lately, I love all this free time!
I've been so excited to learn how to knit on four needles that I've been trying all sorts of weird and wacky patterns!Firstly, this lovely cupcake from Spud & Chloe, and a doughnut from this book, both ace patterns! The beginnings of Fifi the Flamingo from the knitted odd-bod bunch book, the next step is 194 rounds for the neck, which I'm ashamed to say I'm putting off starting...I've also made this flower, which will be in my etsy shoppe in the near future, I've bought some slightly larger self-cover buttons too which I plan to try on the next flower...

I made this chicken creature a while ago, but realised that I never blogged about it, he's from the Plush-o-Rama book which was recommended by one of my tutors from uni. His mouth stitching is a bit wonky, but for the first time in my life I have been able to accept this teeny defect as character, and move on... I must be maturing or something....And lastly, my new knitting needle carry around case (which I just noticed could use the iron running over it!). It's gorgeous Japanese fabric and is lined with my current favourite, red and white gingham! The wooden button is just lovely, one of four that my super kind mother-in-law rescued for me from the charity shop she volunteers in.These are the amazing crochet patterns that I picked up yesterday, I'm amassing quite a collection, they're just lovely! I also got another teeny hook, I don't think this could possibly be a healthy thing to get into!

And, saving the best till last....Today I bought a bench drill! Again, it's geeky tool excitement, but this is the first serious piece of kit for my workshop which will hopefully be sorted within the next week or two!

It's like Christmas morning!

Tomorrow and Tuesday are mace days again, so I'll be silver-smithing, as well as watching a wonderful silversmith at work, what a fabulous opportunity! Right now though I'm tucking into homemade flat-breads and hummus, whilst watching "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". We're going to watch a Harry Potter film a night running up to the new film, which we're hopefully going to see on Friday. Lovely!
