Shopping List Sunday...opps!

I'm a bit late with my shopping list this week, I got very distracted yesterday! Anyway, this weeks list....Inspired by elephants, the theme continues....

Have a little wander over to fancypicnic for more shopping lists, and to join in yourself!

So, the reason for my elephant obsession this week (and the reason for my list being late...) is this cute little chap!

I finished him quite late last night, I'm so pleased! The pattern is quite easy to follow, the main problem I had was that the body was hard to get started because it got very tight very quickly, but once I loosened up it worked. I had been wanting to make him for ages, I'm so glad I managed it! The next thing I plan to make is SackBoy from LittleBigPlanet, using the pattern that was in Simply Knitting not too long ago. I had some problems finding the pattern online, so here it is just in case anyone else wants to have a go! Got some nice brown wool with flecks yesterday which might do the trick!

My Creative Space

As usual I have all my stuff spread all over the living room floor, a mixture of things I'm working on, things I've finished and things I've bought! I've learnt to knit on four and five needles now, so I'm working on a pattern by Susan B Anderson, Elefante! I took the pattern to knit and natter on Monday night and got some help from some of the lovely ladies, who showed me how to knit on extra needles and how to make an I-cord. So far I'm up to four legs, the trunk and half of the head. I am really struggling with the body though, having attempted it four times I have decided to take it to knitting and ask for help!! I also finally got around to trying out the elephant pattern from Flutterby Patch, which I made into a teeny cushion. There's a bit of an elephant theme emerging here....

I've put together my little DIY doll that I bought from yaelfran on etsy (this is her listing picture)

And received a fabby Snork parcel! What a busy couple of days I've had!

Hop skip and jump on over to kootoyoo for more creative spaces!

I went to Wolverhampton yesterday, bought the Knitted Odd-Bod Bunch book by Donna Wilson, there's some fabulously weird and wonderful patterns that I can't wait to have a go at!

I also bought these badges which are so super cute, from freckleface! I just love them!

I also went to see a film, "Synecdoche, New York". What a strange and meandering film! I enjoyed it though!

Yummy Bakes!

Made a yummy plate of Tiffin today!

The recipe is one that my mother-in-law gave me, but we added/changed a few things. It's really easy to make and soooo yummy!

1/2 lb Rich Tea Biscuits (we used digestives and hobnobs)

4ozs Butter

1 rounded dessertspoon Brown Sugar

2ozs Sultanas (we used mixed fruit and glace cherries)

3 rounded dessertspoons Drinking Chocolate

1 1/2 tablespoons Golden Syrup

6ozs Plain Cooking Chocolate (we used milk chocolate though)

Break up the biscuits into small pieces. Melt the butter, brown sugar, drinking chocolate and fruit. Blend together over a low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the biscuit pieces, stirring well until they are coated. Flatten mixture into a greased shallow tin and press down firmly. Cover with melted chocolate, leave in a cool place until set, then cut into fingers with a sharp knife.

Shopping List Saturday

This week's shopping list is just a bunch of fab things that have been in my favourites list on etsy lately....

Hop, skip and a jump on over to fancypicnic for more lovely little lists!

I've finished my latest blanket and here it is on my chair!I'm so pleased with this cosy little nook in my room, I'm looking forward to snuggling up here with a good book!

I wanted to share this video, from The Joy Formidable, who are my most favourite band of the moment. What's even better is we got to hang out with them a few weeks ago after their show in Wrexham, because hubby knows the band's singer Ritzy!

My Creative Space

I've been working lots on my inspiration book this week, having found a huge pile of "Elle Decoration" magazines in a charity shop for 20p each! I'm in the process of picking out the things that I like, I have a whole bunch of lovely stuff to go in there now! My blanket is also coming on well, it only needs about five rounds now to be big enough to go on my chair.Head on over to Kootoyoo to see more creative spaces and to join in!

I went to Wolverhampton yesterday, and saw a French film called "The Mark of an Angel". I also bought some lovely new shoes!
I love Mary Janes, they're my most favourite type of shoes, and I love these! I've been wearing them wandering around my garden to try and get used to them, and I wanted to show off some of my favourite sights....
A little busy bee having a lovely time inside a Welsh Poppy!
Our first (and only!) asparagus stem
The first Broccoli of the year
Giant poppies
and our first courgettes!
I love the summer time, when there's lots of colour, and all the hard work that goes in starts to pay off. Our garden is really quite lovely, and my favourite bit is harvesting all the fruit and veg that we grow! I just love sitting on the path shelling beans and peas, picking and filling tubs with raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and gooseberries, and the smell of the herb patch when it's just been watered! I feel very lucky to have this little piece of the world to call my own, especially after years of just having a teeny yard in the middle of the city. I much prefer the country air!

My Lovely Day!

Had the most fantastic day today! Woke up to find that my granny blanket had been featured by Pip on the amazing Meet Me At Mikes blog! It's the second time that Pip has shown off my squares, I'm so thrilled, and touched by all the lovely comments. I hope that I've inspired someone to have a go, it really is the most fun!! My second bit of excitement was an email from Tiffany Parbs, who is an excellent conceptual jeweller (for want of a better definition). She has very kindly completed a questionnaire for my dissertation research, which is excellent because I need jeweller input to actually do my dissertation!
The day kept getting better with a visit from my fabulous sister, who has just today learnt to crochet! Here's a pic of her efforts so far....
Isn't that just fab?! We had a lovely time, drinking tea, crocheting and having a chat. I'm so blessed to have a sister who is my best friend.

This is my new project so far, I started it yesterday, almost as soon as my blanket was done! It's going to be draped over my sweet wicker chair in my bedroom. I spent some time working on it at knit and natter this evening. I'm really loving knit and natter, I enjoy being in the company of such wonderfully talented crafty people! It's just lovely.

When I got in this evening I had another dissertation response, not a questionnaire this time, but an email from the very talented Naomi Filmer. Naomi's work has basically been the inspiration for my dissertation, so the fact that she's been in touch is a big relief, since my hypothesis is based on her ice jewellery and it's inclusion in the Jerwood prize in 2006. She's going to send her replies by the end of the week, so I can rest easy now, and begin to think about what to write!

Right now I'm sat with my lovely husband, the perfect end to a brilliant day!

It's Done!!

Finally, after months of obsessive crocheting, my blanket is done!!

I'm so pleased! I was told when I started this project that everyone sets out to make a blanket, I am glad that I've actually done it!

On to the next project, I can't keep still for long!

Shopping List Saturday

This evening I popped over to see my parents and was treated to the most rare of sights; a nest full of hungry baby blackbirds sticking their tiny (slightly bald) heads out to call for their mother who was bobbing around the garden with a mouth full of worms! I was so surprised to see such wonderful thing in the flesh, so this week my Shopping List is inspired by beautiful birds....

Hop on over to fancypicnic for more shopping lists and general loveliness!

Had a fantastic day out with my lovely ladies yesterday! We shopped, had the biggest, yummiest milkshakes ever, and had crafty fun in the park. Got some pretty fabric, wool (shocking!) and interiors magazines. Great fun and great company!! We also had a nice chat with a little old man, who wanted to know if we were planning to sleep in the park! A fair question really when two of us were working on gigantic blankets!

Amazingly, I only showed Amy how to make granny squares a week ago and this is what she's done already! Isn't she a superstar!?! I'm so pleased that I can share the granny square love with my friends! I have now put together all 160 of my squares, so now I just have the massive task of edging the whole thing in black and the fun of putting it on my bed....and then I get to start a new project!

Ok, mad crazy update but looksee what I just found on Etsy!

I absolutely loved the Snorks when I was a little girl, so imagine how thrilled I was to take this little trip down memory lane in unicornkidsstudio's shop! Of course I snapped this little lady up straight away, but there are lots and lots of other characters to admire! My hubby and I had a discussion about the Snorks once, and being five years older than me, he didn't remember them, so I had to find them on YouTube so he didn't think I was imagining them (they're pretty hard to describe, I think it could have looked like I was going slightly loopy!)....I always know it's going to be a good day when I feel this excited so early in the day! I'm meeting up with my lovely friends in a little while, have crammed my blanket into my bag because I don't think it would be worth me showing up without it!!! Pics of our fun time later I'm sure!

My Creative Space

My creative space this week is all about my granny square blanket, which seems to be soaking up all my time of late! I'm more than half way on the sewing together, but I still have the black outer edge to do too. I've had a lovely day of historical documentaries (Egypt and Pompeii) and cups of tea. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with some friends from uni for more knitting and crochet fun, and we're all going to have a look around the charity shops for goodies!

Granny Blanket so far...

Here's a sneaky peak at my blanket...

160 completed squares!
And the first pic of it all coming together! Still lots to do but having a great time doing it!
There's 10 squares per row, so I only have another 100 squares to go! It's coming together quite nicely, I'm really pleased! I'm already thinking about my next projects, thinking round cushion covers, throws for my sofa and arm chair, and a large granny square to go on my bedroom chair. Going to have a whole kitschy house full of crochet...can't wait!!

Granny Squares are done!

Just a very quick post to mark the fact that I have finished 160 granny squares!! I have started putting them together this afternoon, and I love how it looks so far! Will post pics tomorrow because I need to go to bed, I have an early start in the morning, but just couldn't wait to actually write down that they're done! What an amazing project it's been so far!

As for today's actual shopping, I treated myself to this lovely bag by Doll Face! It's lovely and big so I can carry around crochet goodness and a book, as well as the usual stuff I drag around with me! It's so pretty!

I finished "The Handmaid's Tale" late last night/early this morning. Couldn't put it down! I'm onto "Cheri" by Colette now, inspired by seeing the film. Hope it's good!
